A new era for small business management

You might have heard of SAP systems. It’s a software platform deployed by a substantial number of medium sized and large enterprises all over the world. The purpose of the system is to ‘wire’ the whole business together and allow hundreds and often thousands of employees to store, share and view data concerning the physical and financial processes of the firm. Successful organisations are run by intelligent people who comprehend the strategic value of this type of software, such as how it can give them a picture of why issues are occurring inside their company or where there might be opportunity for refinements.

This category of platform is often known as ERP. It is very complex, very costly and can take along time to implement. An implementation of ERP software is a major capital expenditure but this doesn’t deter large firms investing in these applications.

Until a few months ago software like this was not available or financially viable for small businesses. As a result small companies have not been aware of the significant benefits that ERP systems can offer. Small companies have been misled by aggressive vendors like Sage Software and Intuit that small business accounting software is the solution. These systems most often have no functionality to enable their owners to join together the whole business or perform fundamental tasks such as customer relationship management.

The rise of Web based CRM software from firms like Salesforce.com is a good example of the small business accounting software organisations misleading or misunderstanding the small business community.

It is for this reason that small business ERP enterprises in the same category as Salesorder.com have started to make great strides in the market. They provide software as a service which includes all of the key functionality a small company needs at an affordable price. What is even more interesting is these platforms are easy to operate and can be installed in a short amount of time.

Now ERP applications are no longer the privilege of large companies.
