The Seven-Step Formula for Writing to Prospective Affiliates
December 29th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedLike any good product, you need great copy to persuade your prospects to join your affiliate program. Remember, though, that this isn’t a generic sales letter.
When you contact prospective affiliates, you need to tailor the letter to each particular person. You can do so by adhering to this format:
- Open with a personal remark, preferably a compliment. Flatter the reader a little by praising his website, his newsletter or his product. The point is to make the compliment specific to that person. It not only makes him feel good, but it also lets him know you are writing to him as an individual.
- Next, establish common ground. Let him know you share a similar interest in that you are both working in the same niche. By informing the prospect you are like him, you’ll instantly create a bond and naturally be able to transition into the reason for your letter in the first place.
- Explain the reason for your letter. Simply tell him that you’re writing to create a win-win working relationship.
- Inform the prospect what his role in the affiliate program will be. Stress the fact that you’ll do most of the work, and all your prospect will need to do is utilize his resources.
- Show the prospect what’s in it for him. Although it’s easy to get excited about your product and your affiliate program, keep your excitement in check. And keep your focus on the benefits for the prospect. Let him know exactly how he will profit from joining your program: commission percentage, profit per transaction, conversion rate, etc.
- If possible, mention some names of experts in your field who are promoting your product, have worked with you before or who referred you to this prospect. This establishes instant credibility. If your prospect trusts you, he is immediately open to the idea of working with you.
- Close the letter with an open-ended question because it prompts a response. If you don’t ask him to respond, he probably won’t even if he was initially enticed by your offer. So make sure you ask for some type of response.
Now that you’re armed with a template for contacting all prospective affiliates, you are ready to begin the recruitment process. This includes taking action like subscribing to lists in your niche, enrolling in joint venture partner networks and frequenting the same forums where your prospective affiliates hang out.

How to Recruit Affliates
December 29th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedSetting up your affiliate center with various promotional materials is important, but unless you build upon that foundation and actually recruit people to join, you won’t see any new traffic to your site via affiliates.
It’s the same with any product. If you don’t market it, you won’t make any sales regardless of how amazing the product is.
So treat your affiliate program like another product. What are the features? What are the benefits? Most importantly, what makes it unique? What separates you from the competition?
Go bold here. Dare to be different because being different gets you noticed.
For instance, name your program. Add graphics to make the name pop and grab attention.
Then register the name of the program as its own domain so that it becomes its own exclusive site. If you don’t want to do that, though, you can host your affiliate center on your existing site.
Whatever method you choose, you do need a home page for your program. On this page, include the following information:
- How to Sign-up
- Commission % per Referral
- When and How Affiliates are Paid
- What Makes Your Program Unique and Worth Joining
- Summary of How the Program Works
- Instructions for Accessing Sales Stats
- Terms of Agreement
Now that your product is completely in place, it’s time to start recruiting.
The best way to recruit affiliates is by networking.
Attend seminars in your niche and make personal, face-to-face contact with as many people as possible. Ask questions about their business and listen intently to their answers.
Show them you care about them before you start talking about yourself. Then tell them about your business and invite them to join your affiliate program.
Other ways to network include tapping into your existing circle of contacts:
- Send a broadcast message to your list to let them know about your new affiliate program.
- Add a message about your program into your autoresponder series.
- Advertise your affiliate program in every product you sell.
- Posting a link to your affiliate center in a high visibility spot on your site.
- Contact your existing customer base and give them the opportunity to join your program.
Once you’ve maximized the power of the people you already know, you must actively search for partners. You can do that by creating a contact letter. In this letter, you should share the benefits of your program with others in your niche who promote complementary products. Then start mailing!

How to Create a Profitable Affiliate Program
December 29th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedYour affiliates are in the Internet marketing business just like you are. And like you, they can only stay in business if they are generating cash. So be generous.
The more money you help your affiliates earn, the more profit you’ll see on your own bottom line.
You can help your affiliates earn more money with you than with your competition by doing four different things.
First, increase your selling price.
Granted, the usual way to beat your competition in price is to lower your own, but think about it. If potential affiliates have the opportunity to make a 50% commission on a $19 ebook your competitor is selling or a 50% commission on $39 ebook you are selling, which one are they more likely to choose? You, of course!
You can’t just inadvertently increase your price, though. You’ll need to increase the value of your product to justify the higher cost. Ways to do that include adding bonuses or extra content.
The main idea here is to give your affiliates a greater profit per transaction, so do whatever it takes to make your price increase worth it.
Second, increase your commission percentage.
Since the standard rate is 50%, increase your rate to 75%. That’s what the top-ranked affiliates in Clickbank offer. One of the main reasons they are at the top is because a HIGH commission percentage gets attention.
Before you start to panic at the thought of making a mere 25% from every sale, consider three things:
- If you followed step one, your price is higher. That means you’d be making about the same amount of money if you kept your price lower and only offered a 50% commission.
- With a 50% offer, you make 50% of a few sales from a few affiliates.
- With a 75% offer, you make 25% of a LOT of sales from a LOT of affiliates.
Also, you only have to offer a 75% commission on your front-end products. You have the flexibility to lower the commission rate on your backend products to maintain your profit margin.
The main purpose of that high front-end percentage is to attract the maximum number of affiliates into your program to promote your products.
Third, increase your visitor value.
The way to increase your visitor value is to constantly test, refine and improve your sales process. This enables you to convert more visitors into paying customers.
When the traffic your affiliates bring to your site converts into sales, they receive an email notification. Every email they receive motivates them to bring more and more traffic your way.
Finally, increase the chances of making a sale.
By establishing a strong customer path that gives your customers many opportunities to buy from you, you give your affiliates more opportunities to earn a commission:
- Up-sells: Offer a more valuable product to your customer on the order page. Give them the chance to spend $97 with you instead of the original $39. If they choose the higher-ticket item, your affiliate earns an extra commission.
- Down-sells: For visitors who opt not to purchase your $39 item, offer a less valuable product to entice them to buy something. A commission from a lower-priced item is better than no commission at all.
- One-Time Offers: After your customer completes the initial purchase, immediately entice them to buy from you again by taking them to a sales page with a one-time offer for a premium product. Your affiliate then earns a commission on that sale, too.
- Backend Offers: Stay in touch with your customers and lead them through your sales “funnel.” Then every time they buy something else from you, the affiliate who initially referred them receives a percentage of the sale.
When you make your program profitable for your affiliates, they’ll be motivated to drive more and more traffic to your site.

WP Affiliate Pro determines which Affiliate Program to promote

Which affiliate program should I promote?
This is a question that plagues a lot of affiliate
marketers, but one which has an easy answer… Let me
elaborate… if you don’t have a conscience,easy
answer. The program that makes you the most money. If
you do have a conscience, the program which makes you
the most money, AND has the highest benefit to your
users.
The reason you should take into consideration the
second part of that question is because if you do the
right thing by someone, you garner respect from them,
and the next time you make a recommendation, they’ll
likely follow it if it interests them.
Tracking user benefits is a little challenging and not
within the scope of this email (think polls,
askdatabases and feedback requests/follow ups), but
figuring out which one makes the most money is!
WP Affiliate Pro, is a new tool from the guys over at
plrPro. With this tool you can define 1 set of
keywords to one affiliate program, and another set of
keywords to a different affiliate program. When I say
set, I mean multiple keywords and divide it 50/50 from
post to post, you want to get the most accurate data
possible.
Over the period of 30 days, with sufficient traffic,
you can see which affiliate program proved most
profitable (if it is a digital product you should also
track refunds as well, another way to find user
satisfaction, one might have higher sales, but a 50%
refund rate), and then from that data, within about 15
seconds re-filter your entire site with just that
affiliate program, rather than taking hours to change
your site/links back over.
Powerful. Get the right tools and use them. The links
on this blog are generated by WP Affiliate Pro.
